Crispy Mathri Tea Time Snack | Easy Recipe

Corona lockdown has ignited our inner fire to cook and create dishes. If you are someone who is not able to work out those detailed recipes, here is an easy one for you. I love food items that are super easy and can be made quickly with no fuss included. So wanted to share some of the snacks that I love to make on an everyday basis or at least once in a while to store them for later use. Today I have this methi mathri for you, an Indian savory snack which is delicious yet extremely easy to make. Also, you can make it in an air fryer so it is healthy too! Let's get started!

What You Need

  • 2 cups maida
  • 1 cup sooji
  • 4 tbsp kasoori methi
  • 1tbsp ajwain
  • 1tbsp red chilly powder
  • 1tbsp garam masala
  • 3 tbsp melted desi ghee
  • Salt according to taste

You can change the quantity of the spices according to your taste buds.

This will make about 20 mathris

Steps

  • In a large bowl, add maida and sooji
  • Now add a melted desi ghee along with all the spices and mix well with hands
  • Take warm water, start adding very little quantity to this mix to make the dough. You need dough consistency like that of poori data. In case you don't know, it should be smooth yet hard. It should not be sticky at all.
  • Work the dough for about 5 minutes until it is smooth and doesn't stick on your hand or the bowl. I will suggest you work the dough on the countertop as it will be easy for you.
  • Now let it sit for about 1 hour after covering it with a wet towel.
  • Work the dough again after an hour.
  • Roll the dough using a rolling pin until it is flattened to the desired thickness. It should be thicker than roti. Now using a round cookie cutter or anything round of small shape cut round pieces in the flattened dough. I feel this is very easy to do instead of making small balls out of dough and flattening all of them, you can do that if you feel comfortable.
  • Now when the oil is hot, slip the mathri in it and let it deep fry until it is golden in color on all sides.
  • Take it out on a tissue paper to extract excess oil.

For air fryer

  • Preheat the air fryer for about 5 minutes at 170-degree celsius
  • Put a limited quantity of mathris to cover the floor of the hairdryer container avoiding to overstuff it.
  • Cook it for about 8 minutes at 170 degrees.
That was it!

You have a delicious, easy, and quick tea time snack ready. You can store it for a week or so, but I am sure it will finish up before that.
