Korean Beauty 101 | Double Cleansing

Korean beauty is getting quite popular in India these days. With Korean products flooding in the market and their very strict skin care regime, it is making everyone fall in love. There are a few aspects of Korean skincare that sets it apart from the rest of the skincare routines followed all around the world. One such aspect is Double Cleansing. It is a method of cleansing your face or skin to make sure it removes everything before you follow the rest of the routine.

According to the experts

The double cleanse is the cleansing method Korean women use for clear skin. It involves washing your face in two steps, first by using an oil-based cleanser, followed by a water-based cleanser. The first step draws out oil-based impurities such as sebum, SPF, and pollutants while the second step cleanses water-based debris such as sweat and dirt (Unfortunately cleansing tissues won't do the job well!) Get started on the double cleanse to prevent breakouts and start with a clean canvas for skincare and makeup!

Steps of Double Cleansing

  • Oil Cleansing: Take oil or cleansing balm on your hand and apply it slowly around on your face. Now massage it on to your face slowly going in every nook and corner. It will help in removing all the makeup and product based impurities along with dirt from deep into the pores. Take a cotton pad or a tissue and remove all this oil from your face gently without rubbing it hard on skin. I use The Face Shop Rice Water Rich Cleansing Oil.

  • Water-based cleansing: Take foam cleanser which is known to be gentle on your skin and clean your face with it by slowly massaging it. Now wash it off with water and pat dry with a towel. Now your skin is ready for the rest of the steps. I use Innisfree Jeju Volcanic Pore Cleansing Foam.

Points for Double Cleansing

  • It does not take much time. You can do both the steps in about 5 minutes.
  • You should double cleanse your skin day and night for keeping your skin clean and healthy
  • It is a must try for people with acne. Oil cleansing gently removes any oils and impurities on your face that can potentially clog pores, leading to breakouts. If you frequently deal with acne, double cleansing consistently will make a huge difference.
  • Avoid using plant-based oils such as olive oil or coconut oils for double cleansing. They might clog the pores. If you use them, clean your skin properly.
  • It does not make your skin breakout. It washes away the excess oil on your face, keeping your skin clean and helping balance your skin's moisture level. This means your skin is less likely to break out!
