Nail Art Horoscope: What's your Zodiac nail art?
Nail art addicts like you and me, we do not need any reason for doing our nails. But we also try to use every possible occasion and reason to create pretty nail art designs. We are one month into 2017! Let's take this occasion to do some horoscope inspired nail art for each zodiac sign!
You might come across to hundreds and thousands of nail art ideas. But settling on a design that suits you is a task in and of itself. So we tapped Essie celebrity nail pro Michelle Saunders for a little help. Her suggestion? Look to the stars. "I've always been fascinated with astrology and the characteristics of each sign relating to personalities," she says.
"This year [for capricorns] is all about keeping an open mind," Saunders says. "You should try new things, like this textured mani."
To get it, paint the entire nail with coral polish, then use a nude shade and dotting tool to draw three vertical columns of circles — instead of your standard straight line.
Your forecast is all about the adventure — even if you take 'em one at a time. “In 2017, rules are meant to be broken for the always-creative Aquarius," Saunders says. "This eccentric accent nail is a good place to start."
Start by painting each nail with a fiery red hue, like Essie Gel Nail Color in Meet Me At Sunset, seen here. Then loosely dab pastel blue, fuchsia, and plum polishes on your ring finger until all the colors meld together. Finish with a few black dots "to create the look of flowers in the mix of colors," she suggests.
Blue is the hue that rules for you right now. "In general, Pisces can expect smooth sailing into 2017," Saunders says.
To create the crashing wave effect, grab three varying shades of blue. First, swipe on a deep ocean shade. Swirl a metallic, pearlescent teal onto both sides of the nail in a figure-8 formation, and then overlap the ripples with a few straight lines of a dark, glimmering navy.
"The year ahead for Aries is blazing with energy, passion and love," Saunders says. It'll also be packed with power partnerships, including this multi-toned, fiery ombré design.
Paint apple-red lacquer all over the nail, then grab a makeup sponge. Use it to dab glitter polish onto the tips of the nails to create the faded effect.
Your astrological symbol takes on new meaning with this bold, ram-inspired mani look, Saunders says.
Start with a single layer of nude polish, then draw two, dark-brown half circles that meet in the center of the nail. Fill the left circle with metallic gray polish; fill the right circle with matte pink. Wait patiently for it all to dry before finishing with a top coat.
2017 is the time to make things happen, Gemini — starting with your nails. “Less talk, more action is the ruling mantra for Gemini in 2017," Saunders says. "This metallic, dueling design ensures there’s never a dull moment.”
Begin with two coats of orange (or coral, as shown here) polish all over the nail. Then, using a striping brush, create a criss-cross pattern with a high-shine, metallic chrome. Fill in the sides with a deep plum.

Leo (July 23 to August 22)
2017 is set to be your most action-packed yet, full of lively friendships and thrilling personal discoveries. "You want to start it off with a making-an-entrance mani," Saunders says.

Sweep a chocolate brown polish on all your nails first, then draw a thin stripe of dark teal along the tips of each nail. Using a brush, create bright geometric shapes of mint green and pastel yellow near the base. "Mix up the angled lines on each nail slightly — think freestyle — to give it a unique look," she says.

You've got a lot coming up these next few months, so make sure you slow down and put yourself first. "Find your inner harmony with this playful, pastel manicure," Saunders says.
Grab striping tape, and section off three thin lines to create blocks of negative space. Then, paint on a pastel lilac shade over the entire nail and let dry. Remove the tape and finish with a megawatt topcoat. (Saunders suggests the Essie Gel Setter.)

Scorpio (October 23 to November 21)
The first-half of the year will involve lots of rest and healing, so you'll need a cool, fierce manicure to kick the second half into high gear.
To DIY, paint on a pastel pink polish first. Then, create varying sizes of half-circles using a burgundy polish to create the "stinger," Saunders says.

Sagittarius (November 22 to December 21)
"There is only one direction for the always fun and free Sagittarius this season, and it’s above and beyond," Saunders says. This arrowed design is just what you need to remind you where you're headed.
Swipe on two coats of a creamy pale pink polish, then dip a striping brush into a greyish-burgundy hue (this one's Essie in Smokin' Hot) to form the arrows. Make sure they point upward!
